The two weeks either side of this Full Moon are the month that has a central theme of all things belonging to the third archetype of the 12 archetype cycle, which we call ‘Gemini’ in Chinese astrology, it is given the symbol of the Horse.
And it is worth noting that this is the year of the Fire Horse and the month after the movement of Uranus into the sign of Gemini for 8 years in Uranus’s 84 year cycle.
Uranus is the planet of enlightenment and Gemini is the archetype of the mind.
In Astrology, we can quite simply take things pertaining to the planets and archetypes and blend them, then look for this in the world.
Uranus is also the planet of sudden shocking events, trauma and lightning bolts from the blue that shed a totally different light upon a situation.
In Chinese astrology Uranus and Aquarius are given the symbol of the Tiger. A beautiful, formidable, wacky skinned carnivore that awesomely impresses, whilst coldly, aloofly eats its prey with detachment. Trauma, objectivity and pure awareness. To an enlightened being, they know the prey is simply transformed into something else. To the prey or those with a compassionate, empathic heart, this cold sight is likely traumatising.
Perhaps we could also enquire if the Tiger gratuitously kills does it end up getting gratuitously killed into extinction itself?
Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury. So this month the themes of Mercury are central.
Mercury was the messenger who was thought to have no real identity itself, but carried messages of others. Regarded as neutral, a tool., not really male nor female. But how neutral is Mercury really?
Gemini represents variety. Like the horse he/she/it can cover a lot of ground. But it is a superficial coverage, the depth and true meaning is missing.
Sagittarius, the opposite archetype, is ruled by the planet Jupiter, the truth seeker, the archetype that tries to work out what is the point of our existence. The teacher. In Vedic Astrology Jupiter is called ‘the Guru.’ It is the planet of morality, ethics, the dharma, righteousness. We are all looking for meaning to our existence on some level, some more than others. But does anyone really succeed in finding it and holding onto it? Does this happen often? Is it not true that we may think we have the answers one minute, only to suddenly have the insight that we don’t? We’ve forgotten the meaning of life that we had so surely discovered not long ago.
Is not the meaning of life different for everyone? Does everyone not have a different point of view?
So how can we claim to possess the truth when another with a very different perspective also claims to possess the truth but it is a different one. How are our truths similar? How are they different?
Jupiter or Sagittarius is the archetype, number 9, and the archetype we often attribute religions to. It is also seen as possessing potentially the negative characteristic of self-righteousness.
The Pluto in Sagittarius generation generally has a crisis around the notion of ‘they know everything/they know nothing.’ A crisis in meaning. And there is an evolutionary impulse that encourages them to come down off their mountain tops and come get the different perspectives of others, all manner of different people. Work out a bigger perspective by looking at various different realities.
So Gemini covers the breadth of perspective, whilst Sagittarius covers the depth or higher perpective. The other mutable signs cover knowledge and distances too. Virgo deals with the details, that Gemini skims over, and Pisces just covers everything, boundlessly and thus has the effect of dissolving everything into nothingness.
So in this Gemini month we are covering a lot of breadth and variety of perspectives. Our attention to detail is somewhat absent as we go for the coverage, trying to keep all manner of plates spinning at the same time.
Our higher perspective is also a little diminished, except for this pivotal moment of opposition at the Full Moon in Sagittarius on May 31st. In which we may sit a bit more and contemplate why we’re doing all this different. What purpose is it serving? Do I believe in what I’m doing? Or is it all just a meaningless, superficial busyness that expends all our mental energy for no real purpose?
So if we want to do this newly introduced to the scene signature of Uranus in Gemini well, this month and Full Moon would be an excellent time to start cultivating an enlightened mind. The ability to find inner stillness amidst a chaotic exterior world.
This month could be all about exploring various different spiritual practices that help you embody enlightenment and wisdom.
Meditation and repeating a single mantra of something positive that appeals to you helps build an energy field around us that is stronger and more resilient. Whilst increasing sensitivity, mindfulness and greater awareness of what is really going on. It helps us to react less and respond better to what is going on within and without of ourselves.
Tai Chi, Qi gong, yoga, walking in nature, singing, dancing, laughing, selfless service, energy healing modalities are all activities that help build a stronger energy field around us.
In the midst of challenges, create a habit of focusing on the positive, making a sweet space around you with the help of Palo Santo, Sage or Pine ethically sourced, tinkling a wind chime or tuning into the bird song, taking a deep and slow breath and sending out good, grateful thoughts to yourself and the world. Find whatever works for you that is realistic. They say, a minute of meditation is as precious as gold. It can only take a few seconds to reset our minds to a better direction, whatever our limitations.
Something that works for me has been keeping a mala fairly close and repeating a mantra for the amount of beads it has, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. As well as whenever I remember during my day. If I am washing up or walking or spewing venom mentally. I try to remember to switch to a mantra instead.
If there is one thing to remember to do in this Uranus in Gemini period for the betterment of ourselves, the world, the Universe and we can do even if on our deathbeds or stuck in a prison, we can improve our energy fields by repeating a mantra for the wellbeing of all…
‘May all beings be happy and peaceful.’
